WATCH: Tigers' Torii Hunter hits walk-off bomb
The Tigers appeared to be a on a verge of a sweep at the hands of the A's on Thursday, but Torii Hunter capped the comeback.
At one point on Thursday, the Tigers were down 6-1 and given less than a three-percent chance of winning the game. Since Oakland had taken the first three games of the four-game set in Comerica Park, the first-place Tigers were faced with a devitalizing sweep.
But by the end of the sixth they had halved the Oakland lead, and then they managed to plate four runs in the ninth, all with two outs. It was veteran outfielder Torii Hunter who provided the dramatic final blow ...
The Tigers' television broadcast called it the team's biggest homer of the season. Hard to argue otherwise.
First and foremost, Hunter's blow gave the Tigers the win. Also of note is that it helped preserve Max Scherzer's record of 19-1.
