Even if it's being done quietly, Padres rookie catcher Yasmani Grandal is off to a great start to his major-league career. Monday night, however, he hit a speed bump. Grandal departed the Padres' game against the Reds with an oblique strain, the Padres announced.
There is no timetable given for a possible return, but oblique strains tend to keep guys out for somewhere in the ballpark of a month -- sometimes even longer.
Grandal, 23, is hitting .312/.349/.597 with five homers, 15 RBI, 14 runs and five doubles in just 83 plate appearances this season. He's a sure bet to be San Diego's catcher of the future.
He was shipped to the Padres this past offseason from the Reds in the Mat Latos trade.
