Yu Darvish scratched from Tuesday start due to neck stiffness
Rangers ace Yu Darvish was supposed to start Tuesday night in Minnesota, but instead he's a late scratch and will get an MRI on his stiff neck.
Rangers ace Yu Darvish won't make his scheduled start Tuesday night in Minnesota, as the club has announced that he's been scratched due to neck stiffness. The Rangers didn't immediately announce a replacement starter, so this is definitely a last-minute type problem that has arisen. The right-hander will have an MRI Tuesday, which the Rangers called precautionary.
UPDATE: They've now named Scott Baker the starter for Tuesday's game.
The club announced that Darvish told the Rangers his symptoms are "similar to what he experienced in spring training." Remember, Darvish didn't pitch from March 17 until April 6 with neck stiffness.
Darvish, 27, is 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings this season. The Rangers are 7-2 when he starts, so losing him to a DL stint would be a pretty crushing blow.
