The CBSSports.com Player Rankings are updated daily.
The rankings are a total player-rating system based on various offensive and defensive statistics. Players increase their scores with every contribution they make to the game -- batting, slugging, baserunning and defense. Pitchers are separated into starters and relievers.
Keep in mind batters are penalized for games missed and pitchers need to meet innings pitched criteria to make the list.
The Giants are for real. With the best Starting pitching and the best up and coming young hitters...notice Pablo Sandoval and Nate Scheurholtz lately. Despite a horrible game manager they have something going ala 2007 Rockies.
The Phillies are in 1st in the NL East and ranked 13th, the Mets are 2nd in the NL East and ranked 2nd overall. How does that happen? IF you're in first place in any division you deserve to break the top 10.
How is Martinez ranked ahead of Mauer? 1/2 the games, more Homers, only 1 less RBI, higher average. Who would you rather have in your lineup both for real and in fantasy?
