Astros 3B Jed Lowrie slams two hits in rehab game
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Astros rehabbing third baseman Jed Lowrie had an encouraging night at the plate Friday with two hits, including a double, for Double-A Corpus Christi, per MLB.com.

Lowrie is set to move from shortstop to third upon his return to Houston, but it remains to be seen when he does come back after missing nearly three months with a thumb injury.

Astros rehabbing Jed Lowrie poised to play third base
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Astros infielder Jed Lowrie, who launched his rehab assignment Wednesday night and was hitless in two at-bats after losing nearly three months to a thumb injury, appears destined to make a switch from shortstop to third base upon his return to Houston.

Young standout Carlos Correa has established himself as the starting shortstop, but third baseman Luis Valbuena has struggled despite a power surge. Lowrie would likely take over as the starter at that position.

"It's been a while, but I've felt comfortable at third when I played there," he said.

Lowrie, who last played third base for Boston in 2011, was off to a strong start before going down. He will return with a slash line of .262/.333/.416 and four home runs in 60 at-bats.

"I need to get back in shape. I need to get some at-bats," Lowrie said, per the Houston Chronicle.

Manager A.J. Hinch said Lowrie will play at third base on his rehab assignment and get some reps at shortstop. Since his absence from the lineup, rookie Carlos Correa has taken over as the everyday shortstop for Houston.
