Pirates call up SS Bixler: The Pirates have promoted right-hander Eric Hacker, shortstop Brian Bixler and catcher Robinzon Diaz from Triple-A Indianapolis. Left-hander Donnie Veal also returned Tuesday to the Pirates from a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Altoona. He went on the 15-day DL on Aug. 7 with a sprained index finger.
