Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Captures third victory despite allowing five runs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jeff Samardzija (3-1) allowed five runs on five hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings in a victory over the Padres on Wednesday.

It was the second straight start the San Francisco Giants gave Samardzija a three-run lead in the first. The right-hander didn't need the three runs in his last outing, but he needed the run support on Wednesday. He allowed four hits in the third, including a homer to Matt Kemp, that led to four runs. The San Francisco offense responded in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. Samardzija couldn't make it through six, but he left with a seven-run cushion. His next start will be next Tuesday against the Reds.

Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Earns win Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jeff Samardzija (2-1) allowed one run and six hits while striking out five over 7.2 innings to earn the win Friday against the Marlins.

Samardzija was given a three-run lead in the first inning, which was more run support than he'd need in a game in which he dominated the Marlins hitters. He's now allowed three or fewer runs in each of his four starts, and he lowered his ERA to 3.00. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Padres.

Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Loses first game as Giant
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Samardzija (1-1) was handed his first loss of the season Sunday against the Dodgers. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs, six hits and three walks while striking out three.

Samardzija was cruising into the fifth, having faced just one more than the minimum through the first four frames. In the fifth inning, he walked Yasmani Grandal, and with two outs, Joc Peterson hit a two-run home run which turned out to be all Kenta Maeda needed to outduel Samardzija. The 31-year-old has pitched decent for his new team, but he needs to cut down on the walks that have led to an ugly 1.45 WHIP. The right-hander has been lucky to get away from trouble by stranding a high amount of runners (76.9%), but that's dangerous way to live as a pitcher. He will make his first regular season start at AT&T Park this Friday against the Marlins.

Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Picks up win over Rockies
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jeff Samardzija (1-0) picked up the win Tuesday over the Rockies as he allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over eight innings. He struck out five.

Samardzija acclimated himself well to Coors Field in his first start there as a division rival. He induced nine fly ball outs without allowing a home run and didn't give up a single extra-base hit. Samardzija lowered his ERA to 3.38 as a result.

Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Unimpressive in debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jeff Samardzija allowed three runs, eight hits and three walks while striking out six and taking a no-decision Wednesday against the Brewers.

Samardzija was unimpressive in his debut after signing a $90 million, five-year contract to join the San Francisco Giants this spring. In 2015 with the White Sox, his strikeout rate fell below 20 percent for the first time in his starting career while leading the American League with 29 home runs allowed. Chris Carter gave reason to believe this trend may continue when he hit a blistering home run off Samardzija in the third. To his credit, the 31-year-old did settled down and retire seven of his last nine batters. He'll look to rebound in his next start on Tuesday in Colorado.
