| Gallardo inching towards .500: Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo was solid on Friday against the Diamondbacks, as he made his longest start of the season. Gallardo pitched into the eighth inning for the first time since Game 1 of the NLDS last season, going 7 1/3 innings before being pulled after allowing a walk and a hit in the eighth. Gallardo would allow only one earned run in the game, on five hits and three walks, while striking out five. The run came on a solo-homer by Jason Kubel, and it was the only extra-base hit he allowed as he picked up the win in a 7-1 game. Gallardo's record now stands at 3-4 on the season. | Gallardo had been on the losing end of three of his last four decision, despite tossing four consecutive quality starts. His fifth in a row was probably his best start of the season on Friday, and he finally got some run support, as the Diamondbacks had scored more than four runs in just three of his nine starts before this game. His ERA now stands at 4.19 on the season, which is disappointing after three straight season below 4.00. His next start comes against the fourth-best offense in the National League, Los Angeles, on Wednesday during Week 9 (May 28-June 3), a team he is 0-3 with a 6.54 ERA against in five career starts. Despite the subpar matchup and his struggles at times this season, he should be left active in most Fantasy formats for the scoring period. (Updated 05/26/2012). |
