Red Sox P Clay Buchholz struck out 8 in eight innings
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz threw eight scoreless innings in Tuesday evening's 1-0 win over the Twins.

Buchholz struck out eight hitters, walked two and only allowed three hits. It was his first scoreless outing since he went seven innings without an earned run on April 6 against the Phillies.

This was Buchholz's second consecutive start against the Twins, which could have played a factor in his success on the mound. He combined for 12 strikeouts over the two games. He now has an ERA of 3.82, which has fallen from the 6.03 he had on May 4.

His next start is projected for Sunday against the Athletics.

Twins-Red Sox postponed Monday due to rain
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Monday's game between the Red Sox and Twins has been postponed due to rain.

The game is scheduled to be made up on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader. Clay Buchholz and Mike Pelfrey were scheduled to take the mound on Monday, and both will presumably be pushed back a day to start Tuesday. Phil Hughes and Rick Porcello, who are scheduled for action Tuesday, will likely pitch on Wednesday along with Trevor May and Eduardo Rodriguez.

The Red Sox will throw Rodriguez in Game 1 of the doubleheader, while Porcello will pitch Game 2, per the Boston Globe. Steven Wright will take the mound for the Red Sox on Thursday.

Red Sox using six-man rotation to give starters rest
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Without an off-day on Thursday, Red Sox manager John Farrell wanted to give his starters an extra day's rest heading into the weekend. So, the team will call up prospect Eduardo Rodriguez to start Thursday's game against the Rangers, with the rest of the rotation being pushed back a day.

Rick Porcello, who was originally scheduled to go on Thursday, will now pitch Friday. He will be followed by Steven Wright and Wade Miley, with Joe Kelly and Clay Buchholz pitching the first two games of the three-game set with the Twins at home.

The Red Sox don't have a scheduled off-day until June 8.

Red Sox's Clay Buchholz drops to 2-6 with loss
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz dropped to 2-6 after losing to Minnesota on Tuesday.

Buchholz allowed two runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings, but his offense could only muster one run of support.

"I felt like I did a pretty good job," he said, per the Boston Herald. "Just seems like we’re running into a lot of guys that are throwing the ball (well) right now."

Buchholz walked one and struck out four in losing his second straight decision. His next start is Sunday, at Texas.

"Well, a pitcher goes out to do what he can control, and that’s to execute," manager John Farrell said. "That game was moving quick, it had a chance to keep him concentrated in a good rhythm, which he was, but you don’t go out there with the mindset you’re not going to score. You go out and keep the opposition in check and give yourself to get on the board. And he did just that all night."

Red Sox's Clay Buchholz takes fifth loss Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz was stuck with a loss on Thursday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings while striking out four in his team's 3-1 defeat against the Rangers.

Buchholz (2-5) delivered his third straight quality start but continues to be plagued by little run support, as the Red Sox have scored just one run in five of his nine outings. He gave up two runs in the first inning, with one coming on an error, and then surrendered a solo home run in the fourth.

"I've been trying to mix my pitches each time out and each time through the order," Buchholz said after the game, per MLB.com. "It's a little bit easier whenever you have your pitches working. It's the times you go through when you've got one or two pitches working and you have to filter out the other pitches."

Buchholz owns a 4.58 ERA and 58:15 K:BB ratio in 53 innings. He's slated to face the Twins in Minnesota on Tuesday.
