Carlos Carrasco turns in strong start despite being hittable
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco had a strong start Tuesday against the Tigers.

Carrasco allowed one run on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 and walked one during the outing. Carrasco gave up his only run of the game in the second inning. After the first three batters singled to load the bases, Carrasco walked in a run. He managed to pitch out of trouble, striking out two and getting a ground out to escape the inning.

Despite giving up just one run, Carrasco often found himself working in and out of jams. Carrasco did give up 10 hits, but was able to pitch around base-runners all game. He put at least two runners in on the third, fourth and fifth innings, but managed to pitch out of it.

Carrasco picked up the no-decision for his efforts. He’ll take on the White Sox in his next start.

Carlos Carrasco turns in strong start Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco turned in a dominant start Thursday against the White Sox.

Carrasco allowed one run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked one during the outing. Carrasco put himself in some trouble early, putting the first two batters he faced on base. He managed to pitch out of the inning without giving up any runs. The White Sox were able to get to Carrasco in the third inning. Adam Eaton led off the inning with a single, and stole second. He was able to advance to third on a throwing error. Jose Abreu then drove Eaton home on a single. Carrasco recovered, and lasted into the seventh inning before he was pulled.

With the win, Carrasco improved to 6-4. He’ll take on the Tigers in his next start.

Carlos Carrasco turns in a strong start Friday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco turned in a fine start Friday against the Astros.

Carrasco gave up one run on two hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked two during the outing. The only blemish against Carrasco during the start was a solo home run. In the top of the fifth, Marwin Gonzalez managed to take Carrasco out to right to start the scoring. Other than that, Carrasco was excellent against Houston. He was pulled after throwing 90 pitches. He left with the game tied, earning the no-decision.

Carrasco will take on the White Sox in his next start.

Carlos Carrasco on the verge of breakthrough?
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Way back in 2011, I liked Carlos Carrasco as a sleeper in Fantasy. He was arguably the top player to come over from the Phillies in the Cliff Lee deal and had just put together a 3.83 ERA over seven starts as a September callup the year before.

Back then, he averaged more than 93 mph on his fastball, according to BrooksBaseball.net, which is impressive in its own right. But in Saturday's start against the Orioles, he averaged 97.1.

That's Yordano Ventura-type stuff, which is as good as it gets among starting pitchers.

Granted, velocity isn't everything, but a pitcher who consistently throws strikes with that kind of stuff will go a long way in this game. In two starts since rejoining the starting rotation, Carrasco has issued zero walks in 12 innings.

He's healthy for once and still has room to grow at age 27. And I need only point to Jake Arrieta as an example of a pitcher who figured it out later in his career. If you've already missed out Mike Fiers in your league, I'd say Carrasco is worth a flier.

Carlos Carrasco tosses strong start against Baltimore
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco tossed a great start against the Orioles Saturday.

Carrasco allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings of work. He struck out five and did not issue any walks. Carrasco gave up a leadoff single to open the game, but was able to pitch around it. All three of his hits came against the leadoff hitter in the first three innings. Despite those issues, Carrasco was able to get through the first three innings unscathed. He added an additional four scoreless innings before he was removed from the game.

With the win, Carrasco improved to 5-4. He’ll take on the Twins in his next start.
