Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Falls just short of 18th win on Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Porcello surrendered three runs on nine hits while striking out eight over 7.2 innings, but didn't factor in the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to Tampa Bay.

The 27-year-old worked his way through the Rays lineup with efficiency -- he didn't walk a single batter and even retired the side in order for two straight frames -- but the righty's shot at grabbing sole possession of a MLB-leading 18th win was derailed in the eighth inning on an untimely Evan Longoria solo home run to tie the game. Porcello threw a career-high 123 pitches against a Rays team he will see again on Monday at home.

Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Ho-hum, another win
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Porcello picked up his 17th win of the season Friday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out eight in a 10-2 win over Detroit.

Porcello has become the rotation's metronome: every five days he gives Boston six or seven innings, doesn't allow more than three runs, and gives the team a chance to win. Boston is 19-6 when he starts and has won 11 of his last 12 starts. With due respect to David Price, the team's highest-paid starter, Porcello has become the staff ace and is certainly a Cy Young candidate. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday on the road against the Rays.

Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Posts career-high with 16th win Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Porcello (16-3) allowed one run on three hits while striking out four over seven innings to earn the victory Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Porcello has now posted seven victories since July 4, while firing six quality starts during that time to lower his ERA to 3.40. He currently has a 1.05 WHIP, which is the first time in his eight-year career that he's posted a number lower than 1.28 in that category. In addition, his 16 wins represents a career-high for the righty. He'll make his next start Friday against the Tigers.

Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Hurls eight solid frames for 15th win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Porcello (15-3) threw eight strong innings at Fenway against the Yankees on Tuesday, yielding two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six and earning the win.

Porcello was a workhorse Tuesday, firing 77 of 110 pitches for strikes and going deep into the game to give his team a great chance to win. Boston's offense has provided Porcello with plenty of run support this season: the 5.87 runs per game is top-five in the AL. Porcello has returned the favor by going deep into games, throwing at least six innings in 13 of his last 14 starts. His 151 innings pitched is top-five in the AL as well. Porcello will look to keep things rolling Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Allows four hits, three homers in complete-game loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Porcello (14-3) tossed an eight-inning complete game in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners. He allowed three runs, four hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Porcello hadn't allowed a homer in his three previous starts before serving up three solo homers on Wednesday. Porcello was dominant outside of those three mistakes, amassing more strikeouts (8) than swings-and-misses (7). It was the right-hander's second consecutive complete game, making him the first Red Sox pitcher to accomplish that since Josh Beckett did so in 2009. The somewhat-undeserving loss was Porcello's first since May 17, and ended a streak of wins in eight straight decisions.
