  • Hudson done in by two poor innings: Braves starting pitcher Tim Hudson got off to a slow start on Friday against the Nationals, as he allowed four first-inning runs with two outs, on four hits and a hit batter. He calmed down from there, allowing just two hits in the next five innings and cruising into the seventh inning as his teammates slowly overcame the early deficit. Unfortunately, after getting the first two batters of the seventh inning out, Hudson could not get out of the inning, walking the pitcher Chien-Ming Wang and giving up a double to the next hitter, before intentionally walking Bryce Harper to get to Ryan Zimmerman with the bases loaded. Zimmerman, hitting just .256 on the season, made Hudson pay for that decision, clearing the bases with a double to run the score to 7-3, and chasing Hudson from the game. The Braves would go on to lose, 7-4, earning Hudson his second loss of the season. He finished the game having allowed eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, while striking out seven, with seven earned runs.

    Fantasy Analysis
Hudson has had four great starts this season and two terrible ones; on Friday and then earlier in the season against the Rockies. He was cruising for a while against the Nationals, but was ultimately unable to put the Nats away, raising his ERA on the season to 4.12 through six starts. He has managed to go at least six innings in each start this season since his debut, even including the two in which he struggled, which says a lot about his durability despite starting the season on the disabled list. Unfortunately, he is set to take the mound next on Wednesday in Week 9 (May 28-June 3), against the top offense in the National League, St. Louis. He has a 5.59 ERA in 11 career starts against them, so he should be considered just a mid-range option in most Fantasy formats, given the tough matchup.
