J.P. Arencibia homers in loss Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Rangers first baseman J.P. Arencibia went 1 for 6 with a solo home run in his team's 2-1, 14-inning loss to the Yankees Tuesday.

Arencibia broke a scoreless tie with his home run in the top of the 13th inning, but the Yankees were able to even the score in the bottom half of the frame before going on to win one inning later. He has hit .139/.186/.291 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 79 at-bats.

J.P. Arencibia not an option behind the plate
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Even with catcher Geovany Soto going on the disabled list again, Rangers manager Ron Washington told the Dallas Morning News he does not plan to play J.P. Arencibia behind the plate.

Arencibia has appeared in three games since joining the team after the All-Star break, all at first base. Washington wants Arencibia to focus on his defense at first base, and does not expect him to be an option at catcher at any point this season.

J.P. Arencibia a worthwhile second catcher
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

The Rangers recalled J.P. Arencibia, heretofore a catcher, from Triple-A Round Rock Wednesday, but not to play catcher. Instead, he's taking over as the team's regular first baseman.

That's bad news for Rangers fans, but as is always the case when a catcher-eligibility player becomes a full-timer at some other position, it's noteworthy in Fantasy.

Catchers -- true catchers -- require regular rest, typically sitting every fourth or fifth game, which causes their totals to lag behind those of full-time players. Conversely, catcher-eligible players who don't require regular rest have an advantage at the position.

The Rangers don't really have anyone else who can play first base. Carlos Pena is gone, and Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland aren't coming back. Arencibia will get his at-bats. They may be ugly and not yield much better than a .200 batting average, but he'll get them.

So why the enthusiasm? For what Arencibia lacks in every other facet of the game, he can hit the ball out of the ballpark, and in leagues that require two catchers, that's enough to make him startable. Two-catcher leagues are typically Rotisserie, after all, and home runs aren't so easy to find on the waiver wire these days.

J.P Arencibia back to square one with Round Rock
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Catcher J.P. Arencibia has accepted being outrighted to the minors by the Rangers. He played Wednesday night for Triple-A Round Rock.

The 28-year-old Arencibia, once a productive starter with Toronto, compiled a terrible .133/.182/.233 stat line with Texas this season before getting demoted Wednesday.
