  • Boggs earns first win: Cardinals RP Mitchell Boggs struggled early in the year, was demoted to Triple-A and has been diagnosed with a bulging disc in his back. On Friday he pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his first win since Sept. 6, 2010. "It was good to be a part of getting a win," Boggs told MLB.com on Saturday. "Last night, whether I got it or somebody else did it really didn't matter. The important thing is going out and trying to do your job and helping the team win on any given night."

    Fantasy Analysis
Despite his up and down year, Boggs has been focused on staying in the majors. "It was tough, but that's part of the game," Boggs said of his demotion earlier in the year. "Everybody in here realizes that this is a business. It was tough for me, but at the same time, I learned a lot about myself. I went down and worked hard and tried to continue to keep pitching. I got back up here and continued to throw the ball well here. There's a long way to go in this season, and I'm going to try to continue doing the things I have been doing." In his 43 2/3 innings pitched this year Boggs has gone 1-3 with four saves and a 3.09 ERA. While he's not in line for many save chances, Boggs is merely an NL-only RP option in leagues that value true middle men.

  • October 24, 2011: Blame Boggs, not La Russa, for Game 4 pitching gaffe
Too much is made of a manager's moves. Gregg Doyel says the media will all but blame Tony La Russa for Mike Napoli's game-changing HR, but he says it's the players -- not the skippers -- who make the difference in games.
October 23, 2011: Pujols, Cardinals go silent at plate in Game 4
Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals followed up their greatest World Series performance with one of their meekest.
October 23, 2011: Holland throttles Cardinals; Rangers knot World Series
Derek Holland allowed two hits over 8 1/3 innings, leading the Texas Rangers to a 4-0 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night that evened the World Series at two games apiece.
October 17, 2011: Just like Cards' season, pitching finishes stronger than it starts
None of their starting pitchers made it into the sixth inning. And the Cardinals still won the NLCS. Scott Miller says St. Louis reaches the World Series with a bullpen that proves tireless and performs almost flawlessly.
October 13, 2011: Wolf holds off Cardinals; Brewers rally to tie NLCS
Randy Wolf outfoxed the St. Louis Cardinals for seven innings to earn his first postseason win at age 35 and the Milwaukee Brewers got two more hits from Ryan Braun in a 4-2 victory Thursday night that evened the NL championship series at 2.
