Mathis could be headed for minors: MLB.com reports that Nelson Cruz (ankle) is "not ready to return to the lineup." The report adds that the Rangers may have to put him on the disabled list soon with the team struggling for depth. The Rangers will bring Triple-A outfielder Julio Borbon with them and are expected to activate him on Friday. He could replace either outfielder Nelson Cruz or reliever Doug Mathis. Mathis would be optioned down to minors.

Fantasy Analysis

At this point, Fantasy owners should consider it a long shot that Cruz returns over the weekend series at the Angels. It appears a DL stint is likely and Fantasy owners will have to continue to go without the ailing slugger. Bourbon, who was up for a week with the Rangers earlier this season in July, is hitting .307 with 71 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 96 games at Oklahoma City. He is worth taking a flier on in deeper AL-only formats. Mathis is not worth owning in any Fantasy leagues at this time.
