Torres agreed Monday with the Giants on a minor-league contract, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. Torres will move on to his fourth organization of the season after stints with the Padres, Tigers and Twins. The veteran right-hander saw his only MLB action with Detroit, appearing in four games in June and surrendering five earned runs over six frames. The 36-year-old will likely have difficulty cracking the San Francisco bullpen while he lacks a 40-man roster spot, but he'll at least provide some extra depth at Triple-A Sacramento after the organization traded away Ray Black and three other big-league relievers last week.... Twins' Carlos Torres: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Twins designated Torres for assignment Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Torres was pushed off the 40-man roster after the Twins bolstered their bullpen Saturday with the acquisition of Sergio Romo from the Marlins. The Twins will have seven days to either trade, waive or release Torres. Since the 36-year-old righty has more than five years of MLB service time, he would have the luxury of refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Carlos Torres: Contract selected
Torres' contract was selected from Triple-A Rochester prior to Wednesday's game against the Yankees. The 36-year-old righty was designated for assignment earlier this year by the Tigers, but he latched on with Minnesota and worked his way back to the majors. He logged a 4.15 ERA in 17.1 innings (eight appearances) and should offer some length out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Carlos Torres: Agrees to minors pact with Twins
Torres agreed to a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports. He recently elected free agency rather than an outright assignment to Triple-A as a member of the Tigers, but the deal with the Twins was apparently more to his liking. Torres will serve as organizational relief depth going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Carlos Torres: Clears waivers
Torres cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. A 36-year-old with just 15.2 innings and an ERA of nearly 7 over the last two seasons was understandably not a particularly enticing option on the waiver wire. Torres will remain in an organizational depth role for the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Carlos Torres: Designated for assignment
Torres was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Torres spent two weeks with the Tigers, allowing five runs in six innings of work while recording a strong 8:1 K:BB. Jose Cisnero was called up in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Carlos Torres: Heading to majors
Torres had his contract selected from Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers after Saturday's game against the Twins, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Torres signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers in late May and finds his way to the majors less than two weeks later. The 36-year-old struggled during his brief stint with the Nationals last season, posting a 6.52 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Carlos Torres: Headed to Detroit
Torres agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Sunday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports. Torres has appeared in 14 games this season with Triple-A El Paso, sporting a 2.63 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with a 23:10 K:BB over 24 frames. The veteran right-hander figures to serve as organizational depth for the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Carlos Torres: Latches on with Padres
Torres signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Thursday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Torres spent most of the 2018 campaign with Triple-A Syracuse, compiling a 3.02 ERA, 1.046 WHIP and 51 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. He also made nine appearances for the Nationals, struggling to a 6.52 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 9.2 frames of relief. Entering his age-36 season, Torres is nothing more than an organizational depth piece.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Carlos Torres: Designated for assignment
Torres was designated for assignment Wednesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. Torres appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen for Washington, accruing a 6.52 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with nine strikeouts across 9.2 innings. In a corresponding move, Erick Fedde has been called up to the big-league squad.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Carlos Torres: Signs minor-league deal with Nationals
Torres signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. Torres has latched on with the Nationals after failing to secure an Opening Day roster spot with the Indians and subsequently opting out of his contract. He'll report to the minors and look to eventually work his way onto the major-league roster. According to Cotillo, Torres' new deal includes multiple opt-out clauses, so he could again elect free agency if he fails to make the big-league roster by a certain date.... See More ... See Less -
Carlos Torres: Opts out of contract
Torres was granted his release by the Indians on Saturday, T.J. Zuppe of The Athletic Cleveland reports. Torres was looking to break camp with the Indians in a relief role, but after being informed he wouldn't make the team, Torres decided to opt out of his minor-league deal and search for a major-league opportunity elsewhere. The 35-year-old has been serviceable since transitioning to a full-time relief role in 2015, compiling 44 holds and a 3.77 ERA across 212.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Carlos Torres: Will not make team
Torres failed to win an Opening Day roster spot, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports. The Indians would like to keep Torres within the organization, but the club will have to figure out a new deal for the 35-year-old in order to make that happen. During 67 games with the Brewers last season, Torres posted a 4.21 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 72.2 relief innings. Expect a decision on his future within the coming days.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Carlos Torres: Signs with Indians
Torres agreed to a minor-league deal with Cleveland on Wednesday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports. Torres will look to latch on in the Indians' bullpen after posting a 4.21 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 67 appearances with Milwaukee last season. Though he fared much better in 2016, he will likely begin the upcoming campaign at the Triple-A level unless he's able to impress the organization this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Carlos Torres: Elects free agency
Torres will hit the open market after declining his outright assignment from the Brewers. Torres will look to latch on with another organization after struggling through a year in Milwaukee's bullpen. Although his final ERA was 4.21, the 35-year-old's FIP (4.93) was a better indicator of his season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Carlos Torres: Continues to struggle
Torres has a 4.31 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 43 strikeouts across 54.1 innings. Torres was a reliable piece out of the bullpen in 2016, but has been prone to implosions throughout this season. The 34-year-old has given up three runs or more on four occasions in 2017, and is unlikely to see consistent high-leverage usage the rest of the way.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Carlos Torres: Struggling since early season
Torres has given up 16 runs (14 earned) on 26 hits across his last 18.1 innings of work. The veteran reliever allowed six home runs in that stretch, and continues to illustrate that his 2.73 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 82.1 innings last season was an aberration. Torres has been used in high-leverage situations regularly this year, but his 4.37 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 37 strikeouts across 45.1 innings suggest he is better suited for a lesser role.... See More ... Brewers' Carlos Torres: Allows grand slam Saturday
Torres (2-4) blew his third save of the season by allowing five runs -- four earned -- on three hits and two walks in the ninth inning of Saturday's loss to the Dodgers. The 34-year-old veteran's ERA climbed from 3.10 to 4.20 with Saturday's implosion. He's pitching in high-leverage situations, but it might not be the best fit for his skill set. Additionally, his 7.2 K/9 and 1.57 WHIP aren't moving the fantasy needle either.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Carlos Torres: Converts first save of 2017 on Friday
Torres allowed one hit while tossing a shutout inning to notch his first save Friday against the Cubs. Torres was protecting a three-run lead, and easily converted his first save of the year. This was a rare save opportunity for him, and he'll likely continue to work in a setup role unless the Brewers bullpen develops injury concerns.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Carlos Torres: Bullpen spot secure
Torres, despite allowing five earned runs over 5.0 innings with the Brewers this spring, is a lock to open the season in the Brewers' bullpen, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Torres' numbers this spring (9.00 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 6:3 K:BB) are unsightly, but they have come in just five innings over four outings, so they also carry very little weight in the long run, particularly when compared to the numbers (2.73 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 78:30 K:BB) he posted over 82.1 innings out of the Brewers' bullpen a year ago. Torres will begin the year as one of the top relievers in front of closer Neftali Feliz and figures to work in either the seventh or eighth inning.... See More ... See Less
