Braves third baseman Juan Francisco went 0 for 4 with four strikeouts Wednesday for the second time this season. He had previously posted a four-strikeout game against the Pirates on April 20, but his futile trips to the plate against the Diamondbacks Wednesday make him 0 for 11 with eight strikeouts in his last four games.

Francisco has hit .258/.298/.438 in 98 plate appearances this year after closing out April with a .297/.328/.500 line. He could lose playing time if he continues to struggle, as the Braves have a capable backup third baseman in Chris Johnson.

The Braves third base platoon of Juan Francisco and Chris Johnson has worked thus far. 

Even with Johnson's recent slump, the club's platoon has combined for the fourth-best average among third basemen, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The platoon also has accounted for seven home runs at the position, which is tied for the league lead. Francisco is hitting .302 with five home runs against righties, while Johnson is hitting .413 and two home runs against lefties. While they can provide value in Fantasy leagues, they have to be used carefully due to their playing situation. 

Braves third baseman Juan Francisco highlighted a five-run eighth inning during Wednesday's 7-2 win against the Reds with his first career grand slam. Ironically, it came off reliever J.J. Hoover, who was the player Atlanta traded to Cincinnati last season to acquire Francisco.

"It just felt good that I got first grand slam in major leagues," Francisco said.

Francisco has five home runs this season, with all of them coming in his last 16 games. Francisco is batting .294 (15 for 51) with one double, eight runs and 13 RBI in that span.

Francisco, who missed his previous two games, drew a walk in the fourth but finished 0 for 3 with two strikeouts in a 5-4 defeat. He has just two hits in his last 14 at-bats. The 25-year-old is hitting .282/.320/.465 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 71 at-bats.

After missing two games with an ankle injury, Braves third baseman Juan Francisco returned to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Reds. Francisco is batting .314 (11 for 35) with three home runs and seven RBI in his last 11 games.
