Anderson shuts out Red Sox: Rookie Brett Anderson threw Oakland's first complete game since last July 8 and outpitched 21-year veteran John Smoltz to lead the Athletics to a 6-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Anderson, who was 82 days old when Smoltz made his major league debut on April 23, 1988, struck out a career-high nine, allowed two singles and two walks and ended Oakland's 151-game stretch without a complete game. Anderson is 5-7 on the season now with a 4.86 ERA.

Anytime you quiet the Boston offense the way Anderson did you are pitching with fantastic stuff. He's now won two straight starts and given up just one run in his last 14 1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts over that span. Anderson always had upside and he's beginning to show it right now as we near the All-Star break. His second start of the scoring period is scheduled for Saturday at Tampa Bay against Jeff Niemann. Anderson should be active in deeper mixed Fantasy leagues for this format and with another win could be one of the most picked up Fantasy pitchers in baseball for the week following the break.
