| Anderson shut down with soreness: The A's have shut down pitcher Brett Anderson for a few days with forearm tightness, reports the San Francisco Chronicle Saturday. This is normal during Tommy John surgery recovery. "He's going to slow down for a few days here," manager Bob Melvin said. "It's rare you have no speed bumps in this process, and to this point it's been miraculous he's had nothing." (Updated 05/19/2012) |

| The Athletics say this news on Anderson is not much of a concern because the pitcher is very far ahead of schedule. Anderson will rest a few days and then start rehabbing again. He's still expected back sometime in August for the A's. Anderson has made just 32 starts in the last two seasons but has a 3.31 ERA over that span with a 136-to-47 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 195 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old should be stashed away in AL-only formats as Anderson will likely make a difference once back on the mound for Oakland. (Updated 05/19/2012). |
