Cubs' Trevor Cahill: Could get win Saturday in Coors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cahill will likely back up spot starter Mike Montgomery on Saturday in Colorado, the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles reports.

This will be a tandem spot start essentially, and any owner hoping to get a win out of this game from the Cubs' side would be better off picking up Cahill, as Montgomery almost certainly won't log five innings -- as he hasn't pitched more than two innings since July 17. Of course, the game is also in Coors Field, so it would be wise to just avoid Montgomery and Cahill on Saturday if the rate states are important. Cahill should continue to serve as a long man/swing man for the foreseeable future.

Cubs' Trevor Cahill: Fires five shutout innings Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Cahill (2-3) pitched five shutout innings on two hits and two walks while striking out three to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers.

Cahill (knee) was recalled from the disabled list to start the first game of a doubleheader, and served as the 26th man on the roster, so expect him to be sent down to Triple-A by the end of the day. However, after making 33 appearances out of the bullpen this year, he gave the Cubs an excellent start by throwing 83 pitches to cover five innings.

Cubs' Trevor Cahill: Officially recalled to start Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Cahill was officially activated from the disabled list to start Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Milwaukee.

The move is essentially a formality at this point, as the Cubs announced over the weekend that Cahill would get the nod in Game 1. Cahill is technically being recalled as the team's 26th man for the doubleheader, so he'll likely be optioned to Triple-A following Game 2.

Cubs' Trevor Cahill: Starting first game of Tuesday's doubleheader
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cahill (knee) will start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Milwaukee, ESPN.com reports.

Cahill's start could be a short one, as he never topped four innings during an extended six-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa, throwing between 36 and 68 pitches in his final three starts. After Tuesday, he'll likely be used as a long reliever and could be the first choice for spot starts.

Cubs' Trevor Cahill: Could get spot start next week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cahill (knee) is being stretched out while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa, and could be an option to get a spot start with the big league club when a sixth starter is needed next week.

The Cubs need a sixth starter due to a doubleheader on Aug. 16, so the fact that Cahill has thrown between three and four innings in each of his last four rehab appearances makes him a strong candidate to get that start. Chicago doesn't have a lot of big-league ready starting pitching depth, especially after trading Adam Warren back to the Yankees, so the fact that Cahill is on the 40-man roster and will be stretched out enough to start next week makes him a likely option. The Cubs will need to activate Cahill by Aug. 17, as he began his rehab assignment on July 18, so he could start against the Brewers, either as part of next Tuesday's doubleheader or next Wednesday. He has a 3.97 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB in 17.2 innings across five appearances in the Pacific Coast League during this rehab stint.
