Cubs' Jake Arrieta: Serves up four runs to White Sox in no-decision
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Arrieta allowed four runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Monday against the White Sox.

Arrieta has allowed four or more runs on four of his five starts and has watched his ERA jump from 1.74 to 2.76 in the process. The Cy Young Award winner is looking downright human of late, primarily because he is finally allowing home runs. After allowing just three in his first 15 starts, he has allowed five in his last five outings, including his one big mistake Monday, a three-run homer by Todd Frazier. Expect Arrieta to right the ship, but the odds are now well against him recording a second straight sub-2.00 ERA.

Cubs' Jake Arrieta: Gets back on track Tuesday versus Mets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Arrieta (12-4) allowed just one run over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Mets. He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Arrieta was the better part of a pitcher's duel with Noah Syndergaard, but the Cubs couldn't capitalize on their ace's performance. He through 63 of his 85 pitches for strikes while issuing no more than one free pass for the seventh time this season. Owners can exhale now that Arrieta returned to form after an ugly three-game stretch in which he posted a hideous 8.27 ERA. The NL's reigning Cy Young winner will take the hill next in Milwaukee on Monday.

Cubs' Jake Arrieta: Will make first second-half start Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Arrieta will make his first second-half start Tuesday against the Mets, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago reports.

Arrieta struggled over his final three starts of the first half, so manager Joe Maddon will give him as much rest as possible out of the All-Star break, and use his other four starters before handing Arrieta the ball Tuesday. The Mets tagged Arrieta for four earned runs over 5.1 innings last time the two faced off July 2.

Cubs' Jake Arrieta: Struggles continue Friday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Arrieta gave up six runs on nine hits over six innings in a loss to the Pirates on Friday.

While you can't complain about a 12-4 record, 121 strikeouts and a 2.68 ERA, Arrieta limped into the All-Star break, failing to throw a quality start in any of his last four outings. Over that span, he was 1-3 and gave up 17 runs (16 earned) in 21.1 innings. His 20:12 K:BB during those starts highlights how the free passes have been an issue for him this season, though he did manage a strong 6:1 K:BB on Friday. He'll probably pitch Tuesday night in the All-Star Game, but it looks like he could use a break.

Cubs' Jake Arrieta: Throws second straight stinker versus Mets
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Arrieta (12-3) turned in his second straight subpar start, allowing four runs on eight hits in a loss to the Mets on Saturday. He struck out four and walked two.

He gave up a two-run homer in the first inning and a two-run single in the fourth. No doubt, Arrieta has spoiled us over the last couple of years, but he's 3-3 with a 4.05 ERA over his last six starts. He's only made it through the sixth twice during that stretch, as control and pitch count have been a real problem. He's walked 21 in his last 40.1 innings after he yielded 21 free passes in his first 68 innings. Arrieta has also allowed nine runs and 12 hits with seven walks in his last 10.1 innings. He will try to get right Friday against the Pirates, who he has tormented since last September.
