| White Sox get Rule 5 pick Rodriguez back: The Tampa Tribune reports that RP Derek Rodriguez, whom the Rays selected from the White Sox in the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings in December, is headed back to the Chicago organization. He was offered back to the White Sox and they accepted, paying $25,000 to get him back. (Updated 03/23/2009) |

| Rodriguez, 25, combined to go 5-2 with a 3.29 ERA and one save in 49 appearances while pitching for Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte in 2008. In 79 1/3 innings, he struck out 88 batters, walked 33 and allowed 54 hits, holding opponents to a .191 batting average. Following the season, he pitched for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League and made 13 appearances, going 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA and 14 strikeouts. This was his first season as a reliever. If he makes the White Sox roster as a long shot, he is nothing more than a low-end middle reliever for the deepest of AL-only leagues that use true middle men. But realistically, he is nothing more than organizational depth at this point in his career. Ignore him in all Fantasy leagues right now. (Updated 03/23/2009). |
