Adams is hitting .208 (5 for 24) with a double, a triple and three strikeouts this season against left-handers. Adams is slashing .192.241/.256 with no home runs and no RBI this season. Mark Reynolds took his place and was slotted in the No. 5 hole in the lineup.

Heyward is a .263 hitter against southpaws this season. He is slashing .212/.272/.341 with two homers and four RBI over 92 plate appearances. Jon Jay will be moved to right field and will bat leadoff for the Cardinals.

Cardinals outfielder Peter Bourjos will start in center field Wednesday against the Phillies, with Jon Jay getting the day off, the team announced. 

It will be Bourjos' second start of the year and he is hitting .100 in 10 at-bats this season. Bourjos will bat leadoff, where he is hitting .270 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 48 starts batting leadoff.

The Cardinals are currently the favorites (-180) against Philadelphia.

Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay is batting leadoff Tuesday against the Phillies, with third baseman Matt Carpenter moving to the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

It's the first time this season the Cardinals haven't had Carpenter in the leadoff spot, and former No. 2 hitter Jason Heyward is back in the lineup Tuesday but batting sixth. Jay has hit just .233/.324/.267 with seven runs scored in 60 at-bats. Carpenter has hit .373/.427/.640 with three home runs, 11 RBI and a league-leading 11 doubles in 75 at-bats.

The Cardinals are heavy favorites (-210) against the Phillies Tuesday.

Cardinals RF Jason Heyward exits Sunday with groin tightness

Cardinals right fielder Jason Heyward was removed from Sunday's game against the Brewers due to groin tightness and is day-to-day, the team announced.

Heyward appeared to suffer the injury on a play in the corner of right field on a triple by Gerardo Parra. He was visited by a trainer and manager Mike Matheny before being replaced by Jon Jay. Heyward was 0 for 2 in the game, dropping his line to .208/.230/.361 with two home runs and four RBI in 72 at-bats.

The Cardinals are set to open a series against the Phillies at home Monday.
