Mets' Alderson comfortable with pitching depth after Blevins injury
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said he's comfortable with the team's pitching depth in the wake of the injury to Jerry Blevins, due to the development of several pitchers and the presence of Alex Torres, who like Blevins was acquired just before the start of the regular season, NJ.com reports.

"[Blevins has] been great for the first couple of weeks of the season, and we'll expect he'll be great when he comes back," Alderson said. "In the meantime, somebody else is going to have to step up. Although we've lost Jerry, we still have far more depth than we had say mid-spring training, just because of the development of a couple of the guys and the fact that we also have Alex Torres."

Though the Mets' bullpen has pieced together a mediocre 3.38 ERA in the first two weeks of the season, hitters have just a .174 batting average against Mets relievers, which is third best in the majors.

The Mets will replace Blevins in the bullpen with righty Hansel Robles, who has struck out 10 batters while tossing 7 2/3 scoreless innings with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mets LHP Alex Torres needs three pitches to gain first save
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

With overused closer Jeurys Familia unavailable Saturday night and Carlos Torres knocked out of the game, southpaw Alex Torres was forced to try to shut down a Marlins offense in the ninth inning that was kicking up its heels.

No sweat.

The Marlins had scored three runs to cut the gap to 5-4, but Torres dashed their hopes by striking out Christian Yelich on three pitches and notching his first career save.

Campbell hit .255 (14 for 55) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs and nine RBI in 24 Grapefruit League games. The four-man bench will include Ruben Tejada, John Mayberry Jr., Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Anthony Recker.

Meanwhile, the eight-man bullpen will include Rafael Montero, Jeurys Familia, Jerry Blevins, Jenrry Mejia, Alex Torres, Carlos Torres, Sean Gilmartin, and Buddy Carlyle .

Mets acquire left-handed reliever Alex Torres in trade with Padres
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Mets acquired left-handed reliever Alex Torres from the Padres on Monday. The Padres acquired pitcher Cory Mazzoni and a player to be named later in the trade.

The Mets have been trying to fill the void in the bullpen due to the absence of left-handed reliever Josh Edgin, who will miss the 2015 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Torres arrived in San Diego last January in a trade with Tampa Bay. He went 2-1 with a 3.33 ERA in 70 relief outings for the Padres in 2014. He is 7-4 with a 2.55 ERA over three MLB seasons.

Mazzoni is 24-12 with a 4.11 ERA over four seasons in the minors. He has mostly been used as a starter in the minors (53 starts, 12 relief appearances).

Alex Torres picks up win vs. Cardinals
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Padres pitcher Alex Torres was the winning pitcher of record in his team's 9-5 victory over the Cardinals after retiring the only batter he faced.

Torres (2-1) was called upon to end the sixth inning and did so before watching the offense slug its way to four runs in the top of the seventh. He took his first loss of the season two days ago in his previous appearance, which also came against St. Louis. Torres owns a 2.45 ERA and 39:27 K:BB ratio in 44 innings.
