| Beckham banned 50 games: Tampa Bay shortstop prospect Tim Beckham was suspended 50 games following his second violation of the minor-league drug policy, the league announced Tuesday. Beckham, the top overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft, is currently playing for Triple-A Durham. "We are very disappointed by Tim's actions," Rays vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. "Tim possesses great potential, and he must rededicate himself in order to become the person and player we know he can be." (Updated 05/01/2012) |

| Beckham's luster as a top prospect has worn off in recent years as he has struggled with high strikeout totals and inconsistent power production. The 22-year-old experienced a decent rebound in 2011, but has managed just a .204 batting average in 13 games this year before he was hit with the suspension.
