Nationals' Stephen Strasburg strikes out seven in win vs. Mets
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg picked up a win Thursday, allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven in his team's 8-2 victory over the Mets.

Strasburg (2-2) fell behind by giving up two runs in the second inning but was otherwise solid, and his offense racked up three runs in the third inning to take the lead, one the team would not relinquish.

Strasburg owns a 4.60 ERA and 30:8 K:BB ratio in 29 1/3 innings through five starts. He's slated to face the Marlins Tuesday.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg struggles Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Underachieving Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg continued to baffle the baseball world rather than opposing hitters Saturday.

Strasburg maintained his mediocrity in a loss to Miami, yielding four earned runs on eight hits in six innings to lower his record to 1-2 and raise his ERA to 4.88. He struck out six to give him 23 in 24 innings on the year, but he has had three bad outings in four starts.

The right-hander was rolling along through three, but doubles to Martin Prado and Giancarlo Stanton and single by Justin Bour in the fourth resulted in two runs. Three singles and a double play in the sixth doubled the output and all but ended his night.

Strasburg will try against Thursday on the road against the torrid Mets.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg earns first win of season on Sunday
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

After two rough starts to being the season, Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg (1-1) returned to form on Sunday against the Phillies, allowing one run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings to take the win.

He struck out seven and walked two in the victory.

"That may be as good as I've seen him. He pitched at 92, 93 [miles per hour] and was able to reach back when he needed it for 95-plus. For me, that makes his changeup even more effective," Nationals manager Matt Williams said after the game, per MLB.com.

"Today, he threw for strikes when he wanted to, went out of the zone when he needed to. I don't know if I've seen him better than that."

The lone run scored off Strasburg came in the eighth inning via an RBI single from Freddy Galvis.

Next up for Strasburg are the Marlins in Miami on Saturday.

Nationals' Stephen Strasburg opens season on sour note vs. Mets
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg opened the season on a sour note, suffering his first loss of the season Thursday afternoon against the Mets.

Strasburg (0-1) was outdueled by Matt Harvey, who made his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery. A fielding error by Ian Desmond helped the Mets tack on four runs in the third inning. David Wright singled in two runs in the sixth inning to knock Strasburg out of the game. He said after the game he wasn't frustrated about the sloppy defense, MLB.com reports.

"You can't let those things affect you. Those guys are going to go out there and give you everything they have, every single day," Strasburg said. "That's all I'm expecting because I'm trying to go out there and do the same thing. I know when you face adversity, you want to go out there and pick each other up. I went out there and I tried to do that."

Strasburg permitted six runs -- three earned -- on nine hits and three walks while striking out five over 5 1/3 innings of a 6-3 defeat.

"I thought he pitched well enough to keep us in it. That's for sure." manager Matt Williams said.

The right-hander will look to get back on track Tuesday at Boston. He allowed two earned runs over six innings of work his last time out against Boston in 2012.
