| ChiSox to take serious look at Castro?: The Sports Xchange reports Simon Castro, who was acquired in the Carlos Quentin deal to San Diego, has a chance to get a serious look from the White Sox this spring. Especially if RHP Jake Peavy is injured come camp or if general manager Ken Williams decides to move Gavin Floyd in the next six weeks. Williams threw some big comparisons out there when talking about Castro's potential. "Castro, as I was looking at him on tape, Castro reminds me of Jose Contreras when we got him and there were things he was doing (mechanically) that were counter-productive," Williams said. "There are a lot of similarities and hopefully we can get the most out of him. Sometimes guys get out of whack. This guy is 6-foot-5, throws 90-95 (mph), a lower three-quarter angle and gets around balls but can drop a hard split and he can locate, when he's right." (Updated 01/08/2012) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
| Castro was considered one of the top pitching prospects in the Padres system last year, but was limited to 22 starts because of injuries. The 23-year-old split time between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson last season and finished with a lowly 5.63 ERA in 115 innings. He did show improved command and walked 34 batters while fanning 94. He is more of a long-term Fantasy keeper, but if he wins a rotation spot this spring, then he would open the year as a sleeper option in deeper formats. (Updated 01/08/2012). |
