The Diamondbacks hope reliever Matt Reynolds' torn left UCL will be able to heal without needing surgery, after a six-week rehab process.

Reynolds received a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, who confirmed the slight tear in his left elbow should heal without requiring Tommy John surgery.

"From what I understand, it's in a good spot," Reynolds told MLB.com. "And hopefully I can just wait around, rehab it for a little while and be good as new."

Initially, Reynolds was not too concerned about the pain his pitching arm, having never dealt with arm trouble before.

"I had been getting some treatment on it," Reynolds said. "It felt a little achy and was getting some treatment and felt it was almost out of there, and then it started coming back a little bit."

Manager Kirk Gibson told MLB.com Friday that it could take another month of rehab for him to work his way back to the club. He posted a 1.98 ERA in 27 1/3 innings of work this season prior to the injury.
