Fuentes went 1-for-4 with a base hit in Friday's 4-2 win over the Brewers in 10 innings.
Since A.J. Pollock (groin) was placed on the disabled list May 15, Fuentes and Gregor Blanco have been deployed in a timeshare in center field, but it seems Blanco has emerged as manager Torey Lovullo's preferred option of the two. Fuentes has recorded just four hits in 27 at-bats since receiving the call up to the big club, and after having previously seeing time in the leadoff spot, he dropped all the way down to eighth in the order Friday. With Pollock not expected to come off the disabled list until early or mid June, Fuentes still has some time to make more of an impression, but he's done little thus far to create excitement in fantasy circles.
Fuentes went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts in a 7-3 win over the Mets on Monday.
With A.J. Pollock (groin) hitting the disabled list, Fuentes was called up from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move and immediately inserted into the lineup as the Diamondbacks' leadoff hitter. It's expected that Fuentes and Gregor Blanco will split duties in center field for the duration of Pollock's absence, with either player likely to lead off against right-handed pitching. Fuentes, who earned the promotion after slashing .376/.403/.481 over 144 plate appearances with Reno, could be worthy of picking up right away in NL-only leagues, but he'll probably need to produce before warranting an addition in deeper mixed formats.
Fuentes will split starting opportunities in center field with Gregor Blanco in the absence of A.J. Pollock (groin), Jack Magruder of FanRagSports.com reports.
Fuentes is an intriguing hitter, as he worked his way onto the Diamondbacks roster by producing a .376/.403/.481 slash line in 34 games for Triple-A Reno. He is more of a gap-to-gap power bat than a home run hitter, as none of his 11 extra-base hits for Reno left the yard. Fantasy owners will also be intrigued by his nine stolen bases in as many attempts at Triple-A -- he has stolen at least 40 bags multiple times in the minors and could be a source of cheap speed if he can get hot and work his way into the lineup above the light-hitting Blanco.
Fuentes had his contract purchased from Triple-A Reno on Monday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
The Diamondbacks will waste no time deploying Fuentes, as he is set to bat leadoff and play center field. The 26-year-old was slashing .376/.403/.481 with nine stolen bases through 34 games before being promoted. While a corresponding roster move hasn't been announced yet, it would seem likely that either A.J. Pollock (groin) or David Peralta (lower body) -- who are both out of the lineup -- will be placed on the disabled list to clear room.
Fuentes was able to win an Opening Day roster spot with the Royals last spring, but the 26-year-old wasn't as fortunate this time around after attending camp with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal. Though he went 10-for-16 at the plate during Cactus League play, Fuentes was away from the Diamondbacks for an extended period to suit up for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, which likely hurt his chances of cracking the roster. He'll likely report to Triple-A Reno.
