Rob Brantly accepts demotion to third on depth chart
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Marlins catcher Rob Brantly is accepting of his new role. With Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jeff Mathis expected to make up the catcher tandem for Miami at the start of the season, Brantly has been relegated to third on the depth chart a year after being the team's opening day catcher.

"My situation is the same as always, just take advantage of the opportunities that are given to you," Brantly said, per MLB.com. "The rest will fall into place."

Brantly said intends to learn as much as he can from Saltalamacchia and Mathis.

"Like any player, you always have to be a student of the game," Brantly said. "You've always got to try to learn and better yourself, and do what you need to do to better prepare yourself for the season. I plan on learning from both of them as much as I can this spring."

Marlins manager trying to balance PT between catchers
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Thursday splitting playing time between catchers Jeff Mathis and Rob Brantly continues to be a challenge.

"The thing I'm worried about with Mathis is wearing him out, playing him too much," Redmond said, per MLB.com. "Brantly is a guy who has had some good games. And he's had some games where everything has sort of snowballed on him.

"What I'm looking for from him is to eliminate those games where one thing happens bad, and here comes another, then another and another. It's eliminating that kind of snowball effect back there. Hopefully he's able to work on that and get better."
