Rangers' Jake Diekman: Agrees to deal to avoid arbitration
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jake Diekman agreed to a one-year, $1.255 million contract with the Texas Rangers on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Diekman struggled in his time with the Phillies before a change of scenery occurred midseason when both he and Cole Hamels were sent to Arlington and the Rangers. A strong finish to the season (2.08 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) earned him some decent pay in his first year of arbitration. While the 29-year-old southpaw should remain one of the better left-handed options out of the Rangers' bullpen, he likely won't see many (if any) save opportunities, and a 3.60 FIP certainly leaves reason to temper any expectations.

Phillies officially deal Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman to Rangers
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Phillies and Rangers finally completed their blockbuster trade Friday.

The Rangers will receive starting pitcher Cole Hamels, reliever Jake Diekman and cash considerations in exchange for starting pitcher Matt Harrison, outfield prospect Nick Williams, catcher prospect Jorge Alfaro, starting pitcher prospect Jake Thompson, starting pitcher prospect Alec Asher and starting pitcher prospect Jerad Eickhoff.

The 31-year-old Hamels, who will make his Texas debut Saturday against the Giants, has compiled a 114-90 record, 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 10 seasons in the majors -- all with the Phillies. The three-time All-Star is under contract through 2018 on a seven-year, $159 million deal. He also has a $20 million option ($6 million buyout) for 2019.

The 28-year-old Diekman is in his fourth MLB season. He has compiled a 9-11 record, 3.84 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 191 career relief appearances for Philadelphia. He is striking out 11.7 batters per nine innings.

Phillies P Jake Diekman gives up grand slam in loss to Red Sox
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Phillies pitcher Jake Diekman had an afternoon to forget during Monday's 8-0 loss to the Red Sox.

Diekman came in relief during the ninth inning with the Phillies trailing 4-0. He then gave up a single to Allen Craig and walked Mookie Betts before striking out Dustin Pedroia for his lone out of the inning.

Diekman then walked Mike Napoli to load the bases. Hanley Ramirez then hit a grand slam in the next at-bat. Diekman was then replaced by Cesar Jimenez.

"I felt good," Diekman said, via MLB.com. "But when pitches are belt high, they're going to hit them no matter what. I just need to get the ball down more. I mean, everything was up. That slider was pretty much right where it needed to be for a homer. It was hung really, really bad."

Since Diekman only pitched one-third of an inning, his ERA is a monstrous 108.00 to start the season.
