Brewers starting pitcher Hiram Burgos took his second straight loss Thursday, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and one walk in five innings against the Pirates. He struck out three while falling to 1-2.

While three runs in five innings is by no means great, it's a step up from the 10-run shellacking Burgos endured in his last start. He'll look for a win Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Brewers starting pitcher Hiram Burgos was pegged with his first loss Saturday against the Reds. Burgos, who made his fourth start, allowed a career-worst 12 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits over three innings in a 13-7 defeat.

The right-hander surrendered five runs in the second before giving up seven runs in the third frame, but with Milwukee's bullpen already depleted, manager Ron Roenicke said he had no choice but to stick with him.

"I don't ever want to do that to somebody again," he said. "We're hurting in the bullpen."

Burgos was finally pulled after throwing 88 pitches and finished with three walks and two strikeouts. He is only the third pitcher in franchise history to give up at least 10 runs in three innings or fewer, according to MLB.com.

Burgos is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Thursday at Pittsburgh, but that could change after his most recent outing. The right-hander earned a no-decision in his lone start against the division rival earlier in the year, allowing two runs over seven innings back on May 1.

Hiram Burgos will return to the Brewers' starting rotation Saturday against Cincinnati, MLB.com reports.

The Brewers planned to skip Burgos with off days Monday and Thursday this week but decided to have him pitch Saturday because of Marco Estrada's struggles, including allowing a league-worst 11 home runs. Estrada will pitch Monday.

Burgos has allowed six runs on 13 hits and three walks over 18 innings with 10 strikeouts in three starts.
