Berry cleared waivers and was outrighted to High-A Jupiter on Thursday.
Berry's pitching struggles continued this year in the minors, so no team was willing to swipe him off waivers. Instead, he'll head to High-A and act as organizational pitching depth until he can get more professional hitters out.
Berry was designated for assignment Tuesday, Clark Spencer of The Miami Herald reports.
With the Marlins claiming Asher Wojciechowski off waivers Tuesday, the organization needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and Berry was the unfortunate casualty. The former highly-touted prospect has struggled at both High-A and Double-A this season, notching a double-digit ERA at both levels, as well as a WHIP above 2.0 at each level. The 25-year-old will now be subject to waivers.
Tim Berry was optioned to Double-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.
This comes as no surprise, as Berry hasn't pitched an inning above Double-A and didn't overwhelm anyone at that level either. He'll continue to develop against upper-level hitters this season.
Tim Berry (knee) was claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.
Berry didn't have much success at Double-A Bowie last season, finishing with a 7.32 ERA and 1.72 WHIP while making a switch from starter to reliever. It's unclear what role he'll take now in the Marlins organization, but it's more likely than not he'll begin the campaign at Double-A once again.
