Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Fills in for injured starter Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tomlinson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Braves.

The 27-year-old filled in for Eduardo Nunez at the hot corner after the veteran re-aggravated his hamstring injury. If the latter is forced to miss more time or go on the disabled list, Tomlinson and his .294 batting average could start in the interim. The utility infielder doesn't bring much power to the table (.364 slugging percentage in 369 plate appearances), but his ability to hit for average and steal bases as a middle infielder has a place in fantasy if he were to ever earn a regular role.

Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Leading off Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tomlinson will start at shortstop and man the leadoff spot Sunday against the Twins, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With manager Bruce Bochy holding out three of the team's regular infielders (Brandon Belt, Joe Panik and Brandon Crawford) in the series finale, Tomlinson will not only receive the opportunity to start but also assume a prominent spot in the lineup. The utility man exhibited excellent on-base skills during his time with the Giants the last two seasons, but he hasn't been quite as productive in that regard in 2017, albeit in a more limited sample. It's expected that Tomlinson will reprise his usual bench role in the Giants' following game Tuesday against the Royals.

Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Recalled from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tomlinson was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With Michael Morse landing on the concussion DL, Tomlinson was needed for reinforcements on the big-league bench. Not only can Tomlinson play all over the infield, but he has also been working on playing center field recently at Triple-A. He was hitting .290/.372/.346 with eight steals in 121 plate appearances at Triple-A.

Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Working on playing center field in minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Since being demoted to Triple-A Sacramento, Tomlinson has started all three games in center field, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

This is an interesting development when you consider the Giants' struggles to produce consistent options in center behind Denard Span (thumb), who has proven to be an injury risk this season. Tomlinson has spent the majority of his early career as an infield utility option, but he did log 25 major league innings in left field over the past two seasons, so he may not need an extended period of time to get comfortable to the new position. If he were to be recalled in the event Span landed on the disabled list, the 26-year-old would profile as a traditional center fielder based on his ability to hit for contact (.294) and generate steals (12) in 340 career plate appearances.

Giants' Kelby Tomlinson: Shipped back to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tomlinson was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The Giants opted to bring closer Mark Melancon back from the disabled list Wednesday, leaving no room in the big leagues for Tomlinson. The glasses-clad infielder collected just six hits during his 15-game stint in the big league, but his previous major-league experience and infield versatility could help him get back to San Francisco whenever more infield depth is needed.
