| The Tampa Bay Rays have placed closer Kyle Farnsworth on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right elbow. The expected move was announced Thursday, one day before Tampa Bay's opener against the New York Yankees. (Updated 5/24/12) STATS LLC Advice An MRI this week revealed a strain of a muscle that's causing soreness in the elbow. Farnsworth said Wednesday it is the same problem that bothered him last September. The right-hander went 5-1 with 25 saves and a 2.18 ERA over 63 appearances last season. To take Farnsworth's place on the roster, the Rays recalled right-hander Josh Lueke from Triple-A Durham. |

| Farnsworth is definitely frustrated to be sitting in the wings and not on the mound for the Rays, but is trying to stay positive through the ordeal. "The offseason is time to sit around and not do anything, not during the season," Farnsworth said. "Still, got to stay positive, we're winning and that makes it a whole lot easier to be able to kind of take my time and try not to rush myself. I still have to take it easy and make sure I'm 100 percent when I get back." Farnsworth should be stashed in deeper Fantasy formats until he's able to return to the Rays. He's expected to regain his job as closer when he comes off the shelf, so he's worth holding on to. (Updated 05/02/2012). |
