  • Benson calls it a career: According to FOXSports.com, SP Kris Benson announced his retirement on Monday after nine years in the majors. The former No. 1 overall pick went 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA in three starts for the Diamondbacks last season before missing the remainder of the year due to a right shoulder injury. “I’m done,” the 36-year-old said by phone from his home outside Atlanta. “I decided pretty much after this past season that I wasn’t going to pursue anything. I’ve been putting way too much into it and not getting enough out of it, as far as the rehab, working out, training, and then not getting the type of results I expect from myself. He finished his career with a 70-75 record and a 4.42 ERA.

    Fantasy Analysis
Benson's best season came in his sophomore year when he went 10-12 with a 3.85 ERA for the Pirates. He posted double-digit wins only three more times after that but never had another season with an ERA under 4.00. Benson, who underwent three arm surgeries in his career, hadn't been a viable Fantasy option since 2006 and can obviously be ignored in all formats going forward as his career is over.
