| McDonald starting to swing bat: Boston outfielder Darnell McDonald (oblique) is progressing well in his return from an oblique strain, reports WEEI.com on Tuesday. McDonald took soft toss on Tuesday and will take batting practice on Wednesday. McDonald is eligible to come off the disabled list as soon as Sunday. (Updated 05/22/2012) |

| McDonald is nearing a return to the Red Sox, who have been dealing with multiple injuries in the outfield. He could see some playing time if he can return shortly. He was the Orioles designated hitter, and became the first player ever to strike out in his first five at-bats and follow it up by grounding into a double play in the sixth.
