  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Re-ups with San Diego

The Padres re-signed Camarena on a minor-league contract Monday. San Diego outrighted the lefty pitcher off its 40-man roster in October, but the Padres were pleased enough with the 29-year-old's work between two levels to keep him around in the organization. He had the opportunity to make his MLB debut in 2021, appearing in six games while giving up 10 earned runs on 16 hits and three walks in 9.1 innings. Camarena will likely join the big club for spring training, but he's expected to open the 2022 campaign with Triple-A El Paso.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Outrighted off 40-man roster

Camarena cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Camarena made his big-league debut this season but failed to impress in a small sample of 9.1 innings, allowing 12 runs (10 earned). His most notable moment saw him hit a grand slam off of Max Scherzer.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Headed to minors

Camarena was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. Camarena threw two innings and took the loss in Wednesday's 16-inning marathon against the Dodgers. He was recalled for his most recent stint with the big-league club Tuesday, and he allowed four earned runs across 3.1 innings in total. Yu Darvish (hip) was activated as the corresponding move.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Rejoins Padres

The Padres recalled Camarena from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The lefty has appeared in three games this season, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings of relief. The Padres face Max Scherzer on Thursday, so perhaps Camarena will be called upon for a pinch-hit appearance in the series finale. Miguel Diaz was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Optioned to Triple-A

Camarena was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Camarena spent just over two weeks with the Padres, and he allowed two runs on two hits and no walks while striking out two in three innings during his time in the majors. Right-hander Craig Stammen was reinstated from the paternity list in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Shines with bat in relief outing

Camarena pitched two innings against Washington on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two. He also hit a grand slam in his lone plate appearance. Starter Yu Darvish uncharacteristically struggled and was pulled after three innings due to back/hip tightness, giving Camarena an opportunity to pitch with San Diego down by six runs. The deficit grew to eight after Camarena allowed a two-run homer to Trea Turner in the fourth inning, but the reliever made up for the mistake by clubbing a grand slam off Max Scherzer in the bottom of the frame. According to the Padres' official Twitter account, Camarena became the second pitcher in major-league history -- and the first since 1898 -- to smack a grand slam for his first big-league hit. The big moment probably won't impact Camarena's role in the bullpen or long-term place on the club, but it was the biggest hit in what turned into an epic Padres comeback.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Rejoins Friars

Camarena was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. The left-hander will rejoin the Padres on Thursday after spending the past couple weeks in the minors. Camarena gave up three runs over 2.2 innings during his lone big-league appearance this season, and he should fill a low-leverage role during his time with the team.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Sent down to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Camarena to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, MLB.com reports. Camarena was one of five relievers the Padres used to cover nine innings in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Reds. The 28-year-old lefty worked 2.2 frames in his big-league debut, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk. Since Camarena was unlikely to be available for at least a couple of days after tossing 52 pitches Saturday, the Padres decided to swap him off the active roster for a fresh arm in Neil Ramirez, who was called up from El Paso in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Unsteady in big-league debut

Camarena pitched 2.2 innings in relief against the Reds on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision. The left-hander was called up Saturday and asked to eat up some innings in what amounted to a bullpen game. Camarena got through the third and fourth frames without damage, but he surrendered three singles in the fifth, and each of those batters eventually came around to score (though two crossed the plate after Camarena's departure). It's unclear how long Camarena will stay up with the big club -- he's worked exclusively as a starter at the Triple-A level this season, posting a 3.00 ERA and 24:11 K:BB across 39 innings.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Called up Saturday

The Padres selected Camarena's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. The move didn't occur Friday contrary to expectations, but Camarena will now officially join the Padres' 26-man roster. Though his role for the big-league pitching staff is not yet clear, the southpaw has been successful as a Triple-A starter this season and could prove equally useful as a spot starter or long reliever.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Remains on taxi squad

Camarena will remain on the Padres' taxi squad for now, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. A previous report indicated that Camarena would be called up by the Padres on Friday, but the team will elect to keep him off the active roster for now. However, he could be available on short notice since he'll spend time on the taxi squad.

  • Padres' Daniel Camarena: Joins Padres

Camarena signed with the Padres on Sunday and was added to the team's 60-player pool. Camarena was released by the Yankees in August but will have a chance to showcase himself with the Padres. The 27-year-old struggled at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2019 with a 6.27 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 88:22 K:BB over 99 innings.

  • Daniel Camarena: Released by Yankees

Camarena (undisclosed) was released by the Yankees on Tuesday. Camarena will head to the open market after posting a 6.27 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with an 88:22 K:BB over 99 innings this season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's yet to pitch in the majors, though he's pitched at Triple-A in each of the last four seasons.

  • Yankees' Daniel Camarena: Called up by Yankees

Camarena was called up by the Yankees on Saturday, Coley Harvey of ESPN.com reports. Camarena hasn't been particularly effective as a starter at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre this season, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.41 WHIP while striking out 56 across 63 innings. However, the Yankees are in need of bullpen depth to close out action prior to the All-Star break, and Camarena gives them an extra southpaw to utilize. If he makes an appearance, it will be his major-league debut.
