| Byrd, Valentine not on same page?: For the first time since joining Boston, outfielder Marlon Byrd was not in the lineup on Friday night against the Indians. He didn't make it into the lineup on Saturday either, despite riding a five-game hit streak. Daniel Nava has started in Byrd's place in both games. Byrd's defense on Thursday may have cost him some starts, but manager Bobby Valentine said he hadn't talked to Byrd. "On one ball hit over his head, I thought he did [take a wrong first step] straight back, but I thought he got to it," Valentine said. "And then the ball missed his glove. I'm not sure what to attribute that to. He's playing very hard, though, he's giving us everything he has." (Updated 05/12/2012) |

| Byrd has a .281 average with a .299 on-base percentage in 17 games with Boston, so it's odd he hasn't been in the lineup. Byrd, who is a career .280 hitter, was acquired from Chicago after he was stuck in a 3-for-43 slump. During his modest five-game hit streak, Byrd has gone 7 for 21 (.333) with two runs scored. Fantasy owners should keep tabs on Byrd's status and role on the team, as that will directly affect his value. For now, he remains an AL-only and low-end outfielder option in deeper mixed leagues.
