Justin Morneau to take part in the Home Run Derby
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau will take part in the Home Run Derby.

Morneau was a finalist in the Final Vote, but lost out to Anthony Rizzo. Despite that, Morneau was asked to take part in the Derby. While Morneau could still find his way onto the All-Star roster as an injury replacement, he doesn't have to be on the team to take part in the Derby. Yoenis Cespedes won last season despite not being on the All-Star team.

Morneau won the Derby back in 2008. He's hitting .313/.346/.509 over 320 at-bats. He's hit 13 home runs.

Justin Morneau homers, drives in six in win Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau went 3 for 5 with a home run and six RBI in his team's 10-5 win over the Cardinals Tuesday.

Morneau knocked in the first run of the game with his first-inning single before giving him team a lead they wouldn't surrender with a three-inning home run in the fourth. He then drove in two more runs with another single in the seventh inning. The first baseman has driven in 13 runs over his last five games on the strength of two big performances. He has hit .304/.340/.522 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 270 at-bats.

Justin Morneau five-RBI game goes for naught in loss
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau had shown signs of cooling off after a sizzling streak, but based on his Friday night performance he's apparently still hot.

Morneau hit a two-run double in the first inning and clubbed a three-run homer in the second to keep his team in a game that proved to be a slugfest defeat. He has 13 hits in his last 30 at-bats. It was his second five-RBI game of the season and put him on a pace for 111 on the year, which would be his highest total since 2008.
