| Guthrie burned by long balls : Rockies starter Jeremy Guthrie had a tough time keeping the ball in the park during Sunday's contest against the Mariners. Guthrie, who had surrendered four home runs on the season entering the contest, served up three long balls in the 6-4 defeat, including a two-run shot off the bat of Jesus Montero in the third inning. Justin Smoak also added a solo shot later in the frame before Mike Carp took the right-hander deep in the sixth. Guthrie allowed six runs on seven hits over six innings in the defeat and was pulled after throwing 102 pitches. He finished with four strikeouts and two walks, while falling to 2-2 on the year. | Fantasy Analysis |
| Guthrie had showed some improvement over his last two starts but was lit up again on Sunday. It has been a very up-and-down year -- production wise -- for the veteran thus far, as he has now allowed six earned runs in three of his seven starts on the year. He has definitely seemed to fare better on the road this season, which is where he will make his next start on Saturday at Cincinnati. Guthrie is 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA in three road starts, so Fantasy owners should feel free to get him active in NL-only formats heading into Week 8 (May 21-27). (Updated 05/20/2012). |
