Red Sox's Chris Young: Two more strikeouts in Saturday's loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Young went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Astros.

Young was pressed into duty against a right-handed starter when Brock Holt was moved to shortstop for the injured Xander Bogaerts (wrist) and continued what has been a woeful start to the season. He's just 3-for-21 with 10 strikeouts (1-for-12 with eight strikeouts against right-handers). Things got so bad for Young that in the eighth inning, he was replaced by pinch-hitter and fellow right-handed batter Josh Rutledge against Houston righty Ken Giles.

Red Sox's Chris Young: In lineup Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Young is batting seventh in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

Young will get his first start in four days on Saturday and he'll be taking over in left field with Brock Holt moving to shortstop in place of the injured Xander Bogaerts (wrist). Despite getting semi-regular playing time this season, Young has struggled to find a rhythm at the plate to this point, slashing .167/.250/.278 with eight strikeouts.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Out of the lineup Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Young is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rays.

Young made three starts in a row, going 1-for-9 over that span, before finally making way for Brock Holt again in left field on Wednesday. Young was excellent against lefties last season, hitting for a .327/.397/.575 slash line against them, but has struggled to find his form this season. He's just 2-for-17 at the plate (both hits were doubles) while striking out eight times.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Three strikeouts in Sunday's loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Young started in place of Brock Holt (rest) in left field Sunday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 5-3 loss to Toronto. He's 1-for-12 (.083) with seven strikeouts in six games.

For the second time this season, manager John Farrell was called on to answer a managerial decision involving Young. In the ninth inning, as Boston rallied for two runs against Toronto's right-handed closer Roberto Osuna, Young's spot in the order came up. Instead of using the left-handed hitting Holt as a pinch hitter, Farrell, citing a need to get Young at-bats, stayed with Young, who struck out looking for the third time. He was signed as a free agent to crush left-handed pitchers, but has not received many opportunities in April as Boston hasn't faced a lefty starter yet. That changes Monday and Tuesday, but manager John Farrell put him in the starting lineup against right-hander Sunday in order to give him a three-game stint to get his bat going.

Red Sox's Chris Young: Expected to start Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Young is expected to start in place of Brock Holt in left field Monday when the Blue Jays send left-hander J.A. Happ to the hill, the Boston Globe reports.

Young was signed for his ability to hit lefties, but Boston Red Sox are just one of three teams that have yet to face a left-handed starter. As such, Young has been rotting on the bench, limited to eight at-bats in five appearances. If you're thinking about deploying Young on Monday, here's a reminder that Boston is playing their traditional Patriots Day game, which kicks off at 11:05 AM.
