Nate Schierholtz's third hit proves key Tuesday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

The Cubs got a rare impact performance from outfielder Nate Schierholtz Tuesday, in a 2-1 win over the Mets.

Schierholtz put together his first game with more than two hits since early April, as he went 3 for 4. His last hit was the biggest, as he won the game for the Cubs with a walkoff single in the ninth inning, to score Anthony Rizzo.

Schierholtz raised his average more than 10 points Tuesday, but is still hitting just .224/.280/.310 in 174 at-bats.

Manager encouraged despite Nate Schierholtz's average
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz got a breather Sunday against the Brewers after a 0-for-2 performance Saturday dropped his season average to .197. Schierholtz is batting .159 through 14 May games.

"Actually, I think his at-bats have been better, to be quite honest," manager Rick Renteria said, per the Chicago Daily Herald. "We haven’t had the results we wanted. I think just continuing to give him a little breath. He understands. He’s doing everything he can to get out there and stay in the lineup. The results haven’t been what he wanted, but he’s actually looked a lot better."
