Mariners' Cruz homers Tuesday, reaches safely in 35th straight
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Mariners designated hitter Nelson Cruz continued his torrid pace at the plate on Tuesday. The slugger went 1 for 4 with his MLB-leading 38th home run--a fourth-inning solo shot--in the 6-5 win over the A's.

Cruz's solo shot got the Mariners on the board, as that began a rally for six unanswered runs. With the home run, Cruz has now reached base safely in 35 straight games. Over that stretch, he is batting .347 with 17 home runs and 26 RBI.

Mariners' Nelson Cruz cracks 35th home run in slugfest loss
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Mariners right fielder Nelson Cruz got in on the scoring frenzy on Saturday. Cruz went 2 for 3, including his 35th home run of the season. The Mariners would loose the slugfest however, getting outpunched by the Red Sox 22-10.

Cruz's two-run shot came in the eighth inning, cutting Boston's lead to 19-4 at the time. He also had an RBI double earlier in the game, giving him three runs-batted-in for the game.

Cruz snapped a 21-game hitting streak on Friday night, but he picked right back up on Saturday afternoon. He now has seven multi-hit games so far in the month of August.

Mariners slugger Nelson Cruz ready to roll Friday in Fenway
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The hitter the Mariners could least afford to lose will not be lost any longer. Nelson Cruz is set to start Friday night in Boston after neck spasms prevented him from playing since Tuesday.

Cruz has been been raking all year, but has been particularly hot lately. He owns a 21-game hitting streak in which he has blasted 13 home runs. All seven of his RBI in August have come via the long ball.

Neck spasms cause Mariners' Nelson Cruz to sit out on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Mariners outfielder Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles. Cruz was lifted from Tuesday's game after experiencing neck spasms. The Mariners have not provided details on the severity of the injury.

Cruz will have to pause his hitting streak, which currently sits at 21 games, the longest active streak in the majors.
