Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano: Leverages strong run support for first Toronto victory
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Liriano (1-1) gave up four runs (three earned) on two hits and four walks over five innings in Friday's 15-8 victory over the Twins. He struck out seven.

It was a somewhat unorthodox stat line for the veteran southpaw, who gave up a first-inning solo blast to Trevor Plouffe and a sacrifice fly to the slugger in the third for his first two runs. Kurt Suzuki then got to Liriano for a two-RBI double in the fourth that represented only the second and final hit that the Blue Jays starter would give up over his five frames. As usual, Liriano got into some trouble due to spotty control, but also missed plenty of bats, notching 14 swinging strikes on 102 pitches. The 32-year-old has now generated a 3.97 ERA over his four Toronto starts and will look to keep things going in the right direction when he takes on the Rays next Friday.

Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano: Knocked around in Friday loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Liriano (0-1) gave up five earned runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Astros. He struck out four.

The veteran lefty couldn't replicate the success of his Blue Jays debut a week ago, as the Astros were able to start chipping away at him early. Carlos Correa got things started with a two-run single in the third, while Jose Altuve also drove in a pair with a double to left in the fifth. Teoscar Hernandez then put the finishing touches on the Astros' scoring and Liriano's night with a sixth-inning solo shot. Liriano has given up eight runs (seven earned) over the 11.2 innings covering his first two Blue Jays starts and will try to rebound from Friday's outing when he faces the Indians next Friday.

Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano: Makes quality start in Blue Jays debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Liriano (6-11) dealt a quality start in his Blue Jays debut on Friday against the Royals. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in a no-decision.

The 32-year-old's first start for his new team was also his first quality outing since June 21. It's hard to imagine that Liriano's value is going to change much now that he's north of the border. The Jays have already said they'll be using a six-man rotation which will clip the southpaw of a few starts he would have otherwise made in Pittsburgh. Also, the AL East is more potent than the NL Central, and the Rogers Centre in Toronto is significantly more hitter-friendly than the home ballpark Lirianio moved from.

Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano: Gets first start with Blue Jays on Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Liriano will start Friday's game against the Royals, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.

Liriano takes the mound for his first start as a Blue Jay on Friday, with Aaron Sanchez lined up as the probable starter for Saturday. This gives Sanchez an extra day of rest as Liriano will pitch on normal rest after throwing Sunday for the Pirates.

Blue Jays' Francisco Liriano: Traded to Blue Jays
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Liriano has been traded to the Blue Jays on Monday, Robert Murray of Today's Knuckleball reports.

Liriano has struggled with his command this season for the Pirates, posting a 5.46 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 21 starts. With Aaron Sanchez most likely getting his innings limited going forward, Liriano should join the Blue Jays rotation. Liriano last pitched in the American League in 2012, when he spent time with both the Twins and the White Sox. The Pirates will receive Drew Hutchison in exchange for Liriano and two prospects.
