Ventura: Matt Lindstrom is still the closer
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

White Sox manager Robin Ventura gave embattled closer Matt Lindstrom a vote of confidence Tuesday, reiterating that he remains the team's closer despite two early blown saves.

"He's in there right now," Ventura told MLB.com. "It's always been that way, where you can make a change at any time. It's tough, the job is tough. As of right now, he'd probably be going out there today."

Lindstrom has a 5.40 ERA in five innings of work this season, and has been thrust into the closer role with Nate Jones on the disabled list. He has just two strikeouts to two walks, and has recorded just one save in three opportunities.

Matt Lindstrom escapes with win despite another blown save
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

White Sox reliever Matt Lindstrom continued to struggle as suffered a blown save, but escaped with the win Sunday afternoon against the Indians.

Lindstrom blew a one-run lead in the ninth, surrendering a run on a wild pitch and on an RBI single to David Murphy. He was charged with two unearned runs on two hits and one walk in one inning pitched. Alexei Ramirez came up big with a walkoff, two-run home run to end the game.

Lindstrom owns a 5.40 ERA, and 2.00 WHIP along with 2:2 K:BB ratio over five innings pitched.

Matt Lindstrom melts down in second save chance
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

White Sox reliever Matt Lindstrom's hold on the closer's role is not considered particularly strong, and he didn't do much to strengthen his position in his second save opportunity of the season Thursday against the Twins.

Lindstrom entered the game up 9-8 after the White Sox took the lead in the previous inning, but he promptly gave it right back. Lindstrom was tagged for two runs on two hits and a walk in his inning of work, blowing the save and taking the loss in a 10-9 final.

Lindstrom opened his season with a successful save in his first chance, but it didn't take long for things to turn around. Fortunately for him, Nate Jones seems unlikely to challenge him for the role at this point, after admitting he is dealing with an injury Thursday.

Matt Lindstrom earns first White Sox save of season
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

White Sox pitcher Matt Lindstrom recorded the first save of the season, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 5-3 Opening Day win over the Twins.

While Nate Jones was the expected winner of the team's closer battle, Lindstrom earned the role before Monday's game despite only throwing three innings this spring while dealing with an injury. Lindstrom entered the season with 45 major-league saves to his credit but none since 2011.

Not much faith in Matt Lindstrom
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

So the White Sox named Matt Lindstrom their closer over presumed favorite Nate Jones to begin the season. He apparently made a believer out of manager Robin Ventura with those three innings he pitched this spring.

Please note the sarcasm.

I don't expect it to last long. Ventura probably thinks he's making the "safe" choice by going with a veteran who has some experience in the role, but of course, Lindstrom's experience in the role is nothing to write home about. He survived a crazy high ERA and WHIP en route to a combined 38 saves in 2009 and 2010.

Granted, he has improved as a pitcher since then, but he's still too hittable to be more than a Kevin Gregg-type closer. Obviously, in leagues where all closers need to be owned, so does Lindstrom, but I wouldn't put any long-term faith in him and would, in fact, still prioritize Jones over him.
