| Tigers cut ties with Giarratano: The Sports Xchange reports SS Tony Giarratano, once the Tigers' bright hope at shortstop, is without a job after being released by the club Jan. 31. Giarratano missed all of 2007 season after undergoing surgery to correct right shoulder instability last March 1. He re-injured the shoulder in December, and the club felt he would be unable to play again this year. "Unfortunately, Tony has not be able to recover from his previous surgery, and it does not appear feasible for him to continue his career at this time," Tigers president/CEO/GM Dave Dombrowski said. "We wish Tony all the best in his future endeavors." (Updated 02/06/2008) |

| Giarratano missed most of 2006 with a knee injury that required surgery. Detroit's third-round choice in the 2003 draft hit .143 with a home run and four RBI in 15 games with Detroit in 2005. Leave him off Fantasy rosters because there is a chance he doesn't play in 2008. (Updated 02/06/2008). |
