A's activate Ellis, option Barton: The Oakland Athletics reinstated infielder Mark Ellis from the disabled list before Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The A's optioned first baseman Daric Barton to Sacramento to clear a spot on the roster.

Fantasy Analysis

Ellis has been on the DL with a strained left calf since April 29. He hit .162 (6 for 37) with a double and three RBI on a 10-game rehab assignment to Single-A Stockton and Triple-A Sacramento. Barton was recalled from Sacramento on June 8 and went 2 for 17 (.118) with two doubles in 12 games with the A's. Barton is organizational depth and should only be owned in the deepest of AL-only leagues. The same goes for Ellis, unfortunately, though he is a veteran.
