10 Daric Barton, 1B

Athletics first baseman Daric Barton has been outrighted to Triple-A Tuesday.

Barton was designated for assignment Saturday, and cleared waivers. The A's have assigned him to their Triple-A team in Sacremento. Barton was hitting .143/.217/.286 in 21 at-bats with the major-league club this season. After a strong 2010 season, Barton's career was derailed by a shoulder injury. He's only received 134 at-bats in the majors over the last two years. 

The Athletics designated first baseman Daric Barton for assignment Saturday to reinstate Chris Young off the disabled list. 

Barton, 27, was hitting .143 with a homer and three RBI over 21 at-bats. 

Athletics first baseman Daric Barton homered during Saturday's 4-3 win at Seattle. Although Barton is batting .182 (2 for 11) in four games since his recall from the minors, he's slugging .455 and said after Saturday's home run he's in a good place, according to the Contra Costa Times.

"I hit the ball good," Barton said. "And I hit a good pitch. The biggest thing for me is that I feel healthy again and can put a good swing on an inside pitch. The last couple of years I’d been trying to force it. It all feels good now. I’m looking for good pitches to hit."

Drawing the start Wednesday after being recalled earlier in the day, Athletics first baseman Daric Barton drove in two runs while going 1 for 3 at the plate and drawing a walk in a 4-3 loss to Cleveland.

Barton joined the A's after hitting .287/.422/.465 in 128 plate appearances at Triple-A. He should continue to see time at first base with Brandon Moss in the outfield as a result of an injury to Josh Reddick.

The Athletics will call up first baseman Daric Barton Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Barton could split time at first base with Nate Freiman as Josh Reddick's wrist injury forces Brandon Moss to the outfield. Barton is a .249/.360/.371 hitter in 484 career games.
