| Barton works on aggressiveness: Oakland first baseman Daric Barton went hitless in two at-bats with a walk during the Athletics' 4-0 loss to San Francisco in an interleague matchup on Saturday. Barton's outing halted his hitting streak at four games but he has reached base safely overall in his past eight contests. Barton has increased his batting average to .211 following his recent run, but remains stuck on one extra-base hit during the month of May. (Updated 05/19/2012) |

| Barton has been working with Oakland's coaches on developing an aggressive approach at the plate and entered Saturday's game batting .556 (5 for 9) with two doubles when swinging at the first pitch, according to MLB.com. That mark is compared to a 3 for 38 showing with a count featuring at least two strikes. "This is probably the most comfortable I've seen him here," manager Bob Melvin said. "I think we're starting to make some strides with him. He's looking more confident." Fantasy owners should continue to track Barton's production at the plate for now. (Updated 05/19/2012). |
