Braves OF Nick Markakis moves back to leadoff spot
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Braves right fielder Nick Markakis will return to familiar territory as Atlanta opens a series at Baltimore, and Markakis will move back to a familiar spot in the lineup, hitting leadoff for Monday's game.

While Markakis has hit leadoff 18 times this season, it's the first time he's done so since May 13 as second baseman Jace Peterson primarily filled the leadoff role. According to the Braves Radio Network, manager Fredi Gonzalez wanted to move Markakis to the top of the lineup, but waited for injured first baseman Freddie Freeman to return before making the switch.

Braves RF Nick Markakis still powerless, but still consistent
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Braves right fielder Nick Markakis has neither scored nor driven in a lot of runs this season, but he has proven remarkably consistent.

Markakis has only suffered through one three-game hitless streak this year - and that was the first three days of May. He has three hits in his last eight at-bats after two straight hitless games.

One issue for Markakis has been the lack of extra-base hits. He has two doubles, no triples and no homers since June 3 and is homerless on the year after blasting at least 10 in each of his previous nine seasons.

Braves OF Nick Markakis on unusual hitting pattern in June
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Braves outfielder Nick Markakis has a weird and mostly wonderful thing going in June. But if it all lines up in the same pattern, he will be hitless in the next two games.

Markakis opened the month with a four-game hitting streak, then went two games without a hit. He followed with a three-game hitting streak, then went two games without a hit. He is now on a two-game hitting streak.

Patterns aside, he has been solid with a slash line of .300/.367/.395. But he has not been particularly productive. Markakis, who has recorded double-figure home runs in each of his previous nine major-league seasons, has yet to blast off in 2015. He is also on pace to score just 70 runs, which would be the lowest output of his career.

Braves OF Nick Markakis hits two doubles in loss to D-Backs
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

For the season Markakis holds a slash line of .307/.392/.377.
